Business Systems Technology
The Business Systems Technology program helps to meet the employment demands for administrative assistants, data processors, word processors, payroll clerks, and bookkeepers. Individual instruction is provided in accounting, office techniques, transcription, oral and written communications, computer operations, word processing, and spreadsheet applications. The mission of the program is to provide technical instruction, and skill development to enable students to enter employment for a career in the business field.
During the first two trimesters (eight months) all students complete a set of core courses which include: keyboarding/introductory Microsoft Word, business English, records management, telephone techniques, electronic calculator/data entry, human relations, personal and professional development, computer concepts, intermediate Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, internet applications.
Upon successful completion of these courses, each student will have earned the General Office Assistant and the Information Processing Support Certificates. For the third and final trimester (four months) each student must then choose one of the following areas of specialization: Administrative Assistant, Accounting Assistant, Legal Administrative Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant.
