The students were broken up into 3 teams with the emphasis being an equal spread of skills in each team. They were given a set of guidelines and limitations for an overall design. 1. Design had to use all areas of the shop. 2. All students had to participate based on their skill levels. 3. Design could not exceed 18” X 18” X 18”. 4. Design had to be completed by Thursday at 11:30 (project was given on Monday morning). Other than that it was up to them to come up with a “design”, assign responsibilities, and keep the project on schedule for Thursday. Competition between the teams was fierce and reached a fever pitch on Thursday morning. What is awesome is that even after announcing the 1st place winner (pool table) all the other teams still thought theirs was the best and should have been #1. We’ll probably have 2 competitions a year as it is a great team building exercise and a good break from the day to day schedule.
